A mysterious marionette who has dazzled countless audiences with her skills and charisma, "Cordi the Conjurer" has entertained audiences for over 100 years! She is said to bear more than a passing resemblance to another performer who disappeared shortly before her debut. Oddly enough, nobody has ever seen her puppeteer... If she even has one.

History
Cordi randomly appeared for the first time in the early 1920s during a show where another up-and-coming magician oddly never showed up, leaving a vacancy on stage that she unexpectedly filled. Although her sudden appearance was an unexpected surprise, Cordi quickly won over the audience with an astonishing set of tricks, paired with unparalleled puppetry skills that hadn't been seen ever before! Once the show was finished and the curtains were drawn, showrunners went backstage to find out more about the sudden performer to find that the puppet was already gone. Ever since, Cordi has consistently performed for the past 100 years, frequently appearing and disappearing just as quickly as she arrives.
The performer who was scheduled to be there on that first night was never found, having disappeared without a trace.
General information
Physical appearance
Cordi is almost entirely made of immaculately painted and sanded wood, with the exception of her vest jacket, undershirt, and hair, and bows. Despite her age, she is very well-kept and has been in the exact pristine state she was in since her debut. She wears a magician's outfit, complete with a cummerbund and the classic magician's top hat (and other various flairs such as a white rose and earrings). Several joints separate her various limbs. The moulding on her socks makes them have a subtle "thigh squish" effect. Her hat can somehow easily be taken off, even with the strings running through it.
Cordi's face is limited to a very small range of expressions (seen in the gallery below). Her blush is painted on, and her eyebrows do not move under any circumstances. She does not maintain eye contact and stares straight ahead in most instances, though rarely she will look directly into other people's eyes if she is particularly displeased. She does not blink.
Cordi is always accompanied by her strings, as she cannot move without them.
Personality and traits
Despite simply being a wood puppet, Cordi is fully sapient, sentient, and capable of autonomous speech. Her voice sounds rather compressed and crackly like an old-timey radio recording, speaking in a Mid-Atlantic accent. However, it is unknown if she has any control over her moments, as she is either unable or unwilling to elaborate regarding who is in control of her strings. Her strings possess a light evocative effect that naturally discourages people from looking for their source. Those who push through the effect and continue looking anyway will find that they will never find an end to where the strings lead. The path the strings lead to will go on endlessly, often in a maze-like fashion that makes little sense. These extra lengths of string will disappear alongside her whenever she leaves. If she is damaged in any way, she will immediately reappear fully restored at her next show.
Cordi asserts that she loves to perform, and has essentially never worked a day in her life as a result. However, she will frequently dodge any questions related to her, often insisting on speaking solely about her performances (as a result, not much is known about her). Cordi's shows are often sporadic, as she will often appear to fill vacancies whenever a show is canceled at the very last minute (whether it be a magic show, music show, comedy night, or other types of performances). She is occasionally mysteriously booked for performances, though finding the true source of her bookings leads to an endless paper trail of shell companies that never quite leads to an end.
Occasionally, Cordi will go into "rest" periods, where she will find an empty stage and go fully inert for a few hours. If she's not resting, she's performing. She does not require any sustenance.
Abilities
Cordi's puppeteering is incredibly lifelike in motion, and she often moves about in a fashion that rivals the skills of top human acrobats. She often "levitates" off the ground when demonstrating some of her more substantial spells, occasionally "flying" around the stage. She is able to levitate objects like her hat (and other props), though it isn't known whether or not she's using wires. She also has a beautiful singing voice, although she doesn't use it very much.
Some of Cordi's tricks are so astonishing that they might not just be stage magic. When asked about how some of her tricks are done, she simply states that "a magician never reveals her secrets". She possesses a wide array of props that she can pull from offstage out of nowhere in a hammerspace-esque fashion, and get rid of them just as quickly (often by draping the items in a sheet and having them disappear when lifted).
Cordi is permanently bound to the confines of stages, and will never attempt to leave them. As a result, she cannot be found anywhere else (she is also unable to enter stages that lack ceilings or upper scaffolding, as there is nowhere for her to hang from). If she is removed from the stage (either by accident or by force), she will instantly flop over and go fully inert before her strings quickly yank her body back on stage (after which she will immediately regain consciousness). When asked, she will often give responses that dodge the question entirely. However, Cordi also has the ability to instantly travel between any stage in the world the moment nobody is able to see her (often by being yanked up off stage, after which she'll immediately descend elsewhere). If Cordi is unable to get out of sight through this method, she will instead disappear in a puff of smoke to obscure her exit.
Cordi is able to speak essentially any human language, likely to assist with her performances throughout the world. Even she is unsure how she has the latent knowledge to do so.
Relationships
Audiences
Cordi loves to perform for audiences, no matter how small. She has a very good memory, and is able to remember individuals who have visited some of her prior shows. She is occasionally willing to stay for a bit after her shows have ended to speak with her fans. Although she speaks in a kind manner, she will refuse to speak about herself, often giving non-answers in response to questions. She occasionally welcomes volunteers to assist with her performances, as she is a solo act and doesn't have a dedicated assistant.
If she is repeatedly heckled or interrupted during her performance, she will simply leave early in disappointment. She will not return to venues where she has been frequently heckled.
Trivia
- She uses a lot of 1920s-era lingo.
- Cordi is a "traveling performer", and thus does not live anywhere. However, she has an affinity for the stage she first performed on, and it will often take priority when it comes to her peformance availability.
